Pure beeswax candles have been the choice of candle connoisseurs throughout the ages. Beeswax is a 100% natural and renewable resource. It is nontoxic and naturally aromatic, infused with the sweet, subtle scent of honey. Due to its high melting temperature, beeswax has an exceptionally long burn time. Most other candles today are made with paraffin, a petroleum byproduct that is unnatural and unhealthy to burn. Beeswax burns cleaner than paraffin, emitting negative ions that improve air quality. Remember Bees Wax is very expensive especially the Organic wax. These candles are taken from hives that have not been artificially fed, completely wild pollen collectors, no antibiotics have been given to these bees.

The candles come in Crystal Quilted Jelly jars, very pretty and heat safe: with a lid to snuf out the flame. These candles are great for emergency use.

This is not a professionally written book, it is a compliation of people and their family recipes plus copied from a 1890 Book for new brides. You will find formulas for soap, paint, all manner of good items to know how to make and do in times of need.

Yes you can preserve fresh meat by canning. So easy and so delicious and not full of all the preservatives we all consume today. I have put this book together from my own experience growing up in a slower less modern time and with help from Bette and other Grannies who have lived through the depression, war and inflation. I hope you will all enjoy going back in time and bringing it to your life now.

Caution:

After starting this book I started researching other books professing to help family's with their planning for stocking up and advice on canning, storage etc. I found many sites that are simply wrong or just mistakenly giving bad advice. One site told people to make a biscuit mix using liquid cooking oil for a quick biscuit mix? First never use a liquid oil for your biscuits, second why make a mix when you have to add ingredients to it anyway. It is much better to make a fresh batch each time and not that much trouble. Dry ingredients last much longer than mixes with oil and mixed ingredients. Another stated to cut down on processing times for meat and vegetable canning to add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar? This does not make it safe to cut down on the processing time and it also changes the flavor of the product.

We are not experts by any means but do have years of experience, we have made the mistakes and paid the price. Common sense is the key and you have to start using it.

Food storage is so important: This is the product your family will depend on to live, be sure to use common sense and take care in your planning or it will fall short of expectations and could very well fail at a time when so needed. Don't skimp on storage containers. Baggies are not the end all for storage. While fine for short time storage they are not suitable for long term. Use either pails with lids with rubber seals or glass jars, baggies full of product can be stored inside these safely. Always use the Oxygen Absorbers in your dry goods pails. They are cheap and keep the product fresh and useable for years. Replace when you open the pail to take out items for use. These items can be purchased from most supply stores, one I used is Waltham Feeds online. Good pails can be bought at any paint supply or home store, they come in 2 1/2 gallon and 5 gallon size with lids having rubber seals. Even once opened the lid can be resealed over and over and will protect your stored items from bugs, air and mold. The plastic clear storage containers sold in many stores are not air tight and will not keep your stored items fresh and good to use.

I recently purchased a "Seal A Meal" machine which works great but the bags are expensive when using many of them for storage but, you can buy the bags by the 100 foot roll on Ebay very cheaply. Same quality and works with all the seal a meal products. I now use these bags to store useable quantities of dry items like flour, sugar etc so I don't have to open a big container and worry about spoilage. These are then stored in the storage boxes ( plastic) sold at most of the stores now. Look on Ebay or in your second hand stores for these machines, people buy them and find they don't use them when they run out of bags and you can get a great price on them. I seal up everything in them from important papers to cosmetics for travel.

BLACK DRAWING SALVE

Lots has been said and written about the old home remedy's like the Black Drawing Salves. I have a very old recipe which I finally went to work and found all the ingredients and have produced one batch of it. This stuff works on any sore, cut etc that has become infected, it will draw out splinters, has been used for just about any type of wound that is sore or infected. It will bring a boil to a head overnight. This is the real thing. It lasts a long time as only a tiny bit is needed so be conservative when using it.


Extra Strength Tar Heel Black Drawing Salve

This product has more ingredients which it is said to remove skin cancers, removing sore moles and in general a much stronger version of the Black Drawing Salve. This is advised to be used only on very serious injuries and the cancerous growths on your skin.

NON-GMO - NON HYBRID Seeds

The seeds are all viable and have been tested for germination. When you receive your seeds place in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight to preserve their usefulness. I have started packing them in vacumn sealed bags now for longer storage life and protection from insects.

When you plant your garden always save a few plants and let them go to seed so you will always have a fresh supply of seeds for future use. We cannot allow these seed strains to die out. Most of these seeds are old varietys which have been saved over the past 40 years and are not hybrids or GMO types. The produce you will be picking from your garden will not be as prolific as the Hybrids but will have the old time flavor and texture they are supposed to have naturally. You will have pests as they are not "Round Up Ready" so watch them carefully for damage. Usually these are really resistant to the new plant pests which have sprung up as a result of the new wave of strains which are geneticly altered to repell these pests and diseases.

A very good pesticide which won't hurt the plants or you is pure hot sauce... Take your hot peppers seeds and all and grind in a mortor & pestil or in the blender. Add this to about a gallon of clean water, add a few drops of dish detergent to make it wetter and spray your plants at the first sight of a pest. (Just remember to keep your hands away from your eyes or you will be crying all the way to the kitchen..)

I am looking for some herb seeds that are natural ones and have some located but the price is just too high to be reasonable. I may just have to buy some of the plants and save the seeds to be able to get them to you for your next years garden. In the meantime, buy all the spices and herbs you will need now as they may not be available in a few months. The most reasonable and freshest herbs for cooking that I have found are sold in large containers to restaurants so go to your local restaurant supply house and get your herbs from them. They are also much cheaper. If you cannot buy directly from the supplier simply find a restaurant owner that will order them for you. The fact is that just about any kind of food product you use can be bought from the supplier and you will save a ton of money plus get a better quality of product. The Restaurant suppliers have to sell the best for the least as Restaurants cannot afford to offer low grade items for sale to their patrons if they want to keep them.

When you order one whole set I will put in a free package of "Early Spring Greens" these are a mixture of several different types of salad greens to be cut while young and cooked quickly. This was always the first fresh vegetable we ate at home. So good after a winter of eating canned vegetables ( home canned).
